THE NAME DROPPER

Rodney always seems to have stories about his connection with someone famous or about a relationship at some celebrity event. Every conversation becomes an opportunity for him to drop a name and elevate himself. I guess it’s funny because he really thinks that by association, it makes him appear more important in our eyes. The best part is that none of it ever seems to actually add up. His stories are often contradictory, and if pressed on the specifics, he invariably can’t quite remember names and sometimes key facts. Everyone’s grown used to it and has taken his stories with a pinch of salt. We all know his game, and now sometimes we play along to see who can get him to drop the biggest name. Who can cause Rodney to mutter the word ‘Mahathir’? It’s almost become a neighbourhood game—who can get our big-talking companion to drop the most preposterous star-studded name?
