JAMIL HATES CELEBRATIONS

Jamil hates celebrations with vengeance. He has some kind of Pavlovian radar for parties and get-togethers and will do almost anything to prevent himself from attending. There is something about him that seems to sense birthdays, graduations, and any outdoor gathering multiple city blocks away, and he will stop at nothing to avoid them. If, by some freak accident, he stumbles upon one, he looks like he is suffering from an internal seizure as he tries to figure out what on earth is going on and scrambles to find an exit. He mutters angrily under his breath. ‘They have balloons,’ he exclaims, disgusted, ‘and they have made banners!’ 
But also, the best thing is the way that, for such a serious-minded fun hater, you also get the sense that he wishes he could enjoy it all. You can see this internal struggle, this wanting to get into the spirit of celebration. You get a sense that part of him desperately wants to be out there experiencing the party for himself. There’s a tension between wanting to get into the party mood and wanting to remain anti-party to its core. It’s a laughter-inducing struggle, and no one can help but smile.
