CHAPTER 6 – THE SAHUR INVESTIGATION

SAHUR AGENDA: TRACKING SUSPICIOUS MOVEMENTS

It was only 2:30 AM, but the Kampung Melayu Detective Gang was already on high alert. Tonight, they weren’t just staying up for sahur—they had a mission: to observe any suspicious activity in their neighborhood.

“Okay, our strategy is simple,” Aiman whispered to Badrul, Johan, Din, and Faizal.

Faizal, who had now officially joined the gang after the incident at the mosque, smirked while fixing his hair..

“I think we should have a secret code. Like in Mission: Impossible,” Faizal suggested.

Din rolled his eyes. “You’re the last one to join this gang, and now you want secret codes?”

Johan cut in, “No need for that. Let’s just stick to our roles.”

They divided their tasks:

- Aiman & Johan – Pretend to be regular kids going for sahur at a 24-hour eatery.

- Badrul & Din – Keep watch near an abandoned stall where some suspicious workers were seen before.

- Faizal – Stay at Aiman’s house, monitoring from the window using a cheap toy binoculars he bought at the night market.

“I can’t believe he got the easiest job,” Badrul muttered.

THE 24-HOUR EATERY: A MYSTERIOUS CONVERSATION

Aiman and Johan arrived at a small eatery famous for its ‘nasi goreng kambing power’ near Jalan Tebrau. While the place was packed with people having sahur, their attention was drawn to two suspicious-looking men sitting at the furthest table, speaking in hushed voices.

Johan nudged Aiman. “Bro, isn’t that the…”

Aiman nodded. One of them was the man in the brown shirt they saw at the mosque last night!

The man was talking to someone older, wearing a black leather jacket.

Aiman and Johan took a seat nearby, pretending to wait for food. Johan discreetly pressed the record button on his Sony Ericsson K300i.

“Is everything secured?” the man in the leather jacket asked.

“Yeah. No issues with our kuih stock. Everything is ready to be sold as usual.”

Aiman and Johan exchanged glances. Kuih stock? Did this mean the stolen kuih was still in circulation somewhere?

“Be careful. Those Kampung Melayu kids are sniffing around.”

Wait… Kampung Melayu kids? That’s THEM!

Johan nearly choked, but Aiman quickly covered his mouth.

Suddenly, the man in the brown shirt looked in their direction. Aiman quickly gazed at the ceiling and started humming.

“Let’s go. We need to meet the big boss after sahur.”

The two men got up and left. Aiman and Johan waited a few seconds before discreetly following them.

BADRUL & DIN GET CAUGHT?

Elsewhere, Badrul and Din, stationed near the abandoned stall, were struggling to stay awake due to the eerie silence.

“What did you have for sahur?” Din asked, trying to fight off drowsiness.

Badrul grinned. “Nothing. Just drank water.”

“You think you can survive?”

“No… but I need to diet.”

Din shook his head. “You’re already skinny.”

Just then, they heard the rumble of a motorcycle engine in the distance.

They quickly hid behind a pile of empty boxes.

Two motorcycles stopped near the abandoned stall. One man got off, holding a large black plastic bag. He placed it on the table and began talking to his companion.

Badrul tried to snap a picture with his Nikon Coolpix digital camera.

Unfortunately, he accidentally knocked over an empty tin can!

DANG!

The men immediately turned towards the noise!

Din whispered, “You just HAD to mess up, huh?”

One of the men pulled out a flashlight and shone it in their direction.

“HEY! Someone’s spying on us!”

Badrul and Din panicked.

“RUN!”

They sprinted as fast as they could, with the motorcyclists chasing after them!

*******

THE DETECTIVE GANG ON THE RUN!

Meanwhile, Aiman and Johan were still tailing the brown-shirted man through a dark alley.

Suddenly, Johan’s Sony Ericsson phone rang LOUDLY!

“GUYS! RUN! BADRUL & DIN ARE BEING CHASED!”

Aiman and Johan froze.

The brown-shirted man turned around sharply.

“Hey, aren’t those the kids from the mosque?”

He signaled his companion, and they both started running toward Aiman and Johan!

Aiman and Johan bolted, weaving through narrow streets toward Aiman’s house.

At Aiman’s house, Faizal—who had been watching everything from the window—almost fell off his chair in shock.

“I think I’m quitting this gang…” he whispered to himself.

Suddenly, there was a loud knock at the back door!

TUK! TUK! TUK!

“OPEN UP! QUICK!” Johan’s voice called out.

Faizal rushed to the door and unlocked it, letting Aiman and Johan in.

Moments later, Badrul and Din arrived as well—having escaped by hiding behind a burger stall.

Everyone was out of breath, gathered in Aiman’s living room.

*******

WHAT DID THEY LEARN TONIGHT?

After catching their breath, Aiman raised his hand.

“Guys, we found something big.”

Johan held up his phone. “I recorded their conversation at the eatery.”

Badrul showed his camera. “I managed to snap a picture of the guy dropping the plastic bag at the stall.”

Din sighed. “But we’ve been exposed.”

Faizal, still shaken, said, “Bro, I think we’re messing with some really dangerous people.”

Aiman swallowed hard. This kuih mystery wasn’t just some small-time case. It was bigger than they had ever imagined.

Now, they were caught in a conspiracy far more dangerous than they had anticipated…
